THE WADE COTTAGES
In 1929, the Wade family purchased a group of cottages in the quaint village of Siasconset (or ‘Sconset) on Nantucket Island. The cottages had been a vacation colony since the 1800’s. Members of the Wade family still own and manage the compound and continue to welcome guests. For more than eighty years, they’ve shared this corner of heaven with friends and relatives, vacationing families, newlyweds, wedding parties, and most recently, those seeking to escape the workaday world for yoga, meditation, writers’, or artists’ retreats.
Please note that we no longer offer room, apartment, or small cottage rentals. We have streamlined the business and now rent out the Main House and the Guest House, each as a single family home (though each is large enough for multiple families to enjoy together). There is a week minimum during July and August and four-night minimum in the spring and fall.

LOCATION
The Cottages stand on the ‘Sconset bluff, facing due east above the dunes and beach. Just to the south is the village center, which is well known for its remarkable charm. ‘Sconset’s storied fishermen’s cottages, built when the village was settled as a whaling outpost more than three centuries ago, are prized for their historical and architectural uniqueness.
The Wade Cottages are located at 35 Shell Street in ‘Sconset.

THE MAIN HOUSE
The Main House is the largest of the charming and historic Wade Cottages, originally built as a family estate. This is the first time this grand home has been open for vacation rentals. It is particularly suitable for multi-family vacations, family reunions, retreats [including yoga, meditation, writing and art] and other special occasions.
The house has 10 bedrooms (9 of which are ocean-facing) and 6 baths. The Great Room, which boasts a grand piano and a fireplace, has huge picture windows with sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean. Also on the first floor are a dining room, a den, and an en suite bedroom, complete with its own sitting room. The kitchen (with a butler’s pantry) has brand new appliances. French doors open onto a wide deck with a sizable outside dining area. Upstairs there are 8 bedrooms, and 4 full bathrooms. There is en-suite king bedroom and an office/sitting room. The house has two outdoor showers.
The expansive lawns extend to the edge of the bluff where a stairway leads directly down to the beach. The yard is perfect for volleyball, badminton, croquet, soccer, or baseball. An enclosed garden area boasts comfortable seating and a fire pit.

THE GUEST COTTAGE
The Guest Cottage is a large, comfortable six-bedroom house that sleeps up to 12 people. Guests enjoy use of an expansive lawn and direct beach access. It can be rented from late-May through mid-October. During July and August, the house is rented for a minimum of one week (Saturday to Saturday). Shorter stays are possible in the spring and fall.
On the first floor of the Guest Cottage, there are two bedrooms with en suite baths. Each room can be made up with either one king-sized bed or two twins. Also on the first floor are a sitting room and a den, which has a television, queen sofabed, a half-bath and direct access to a small deck, outdoor grill area, and outdoor shower. The living room, dining area, and kitchen are upstairs with striking ocean views. There are four bedrooms upstairs: one queen, one double, one twin, and one king (or two twins). There are one and one-half baths on this floor.

SPECIAL OCCASIONS
The Wade Cottages compound is an ideal setting for celebrations of all sorts, from family reunions and anniversaries to weddings and fundraisers. The Main House and Guest Cottage together accommodate nearly 30 people. If more space is needed, we can often help secure additional nearby cottages, owned by our neighbors. While the lawn can accommodate a large tent for outdoor festivities, it’s also the perfect setting for games of badminton, croquet, touch football, baseball, or soccer. The Main House’s spacious living room, dining room, and ocean-facing deck are ideal for group gatherings and meals.

RETREATS
Whether it’s to paint, write, practice yoga, do meditation, or meet with colleagues to brainstorm, the Wade Cottages is an ideal setting for retreats. The Main House and Guest Cottage together sleep up to 28 people and provide large spaces for group gatherings both inside and outside. The Main House’s expansive living room, ocean-facing deck and dining room can accommodate meals, meetings, and workshops. The expansive lawn and serene beach provide the perfect backdrop for quiet practices like yoga, meditation and drawing or painting, as well as group sports and team-building activities.
