Housekeeping Job Application

A forty-hour workweek amounts mainly to tending to guestrooms on a daily basis, apartments weekly and full cottages on the average of once a month. Housekeepers also prepare a light, continental breakfast for guests. Housekeeping takes about two-thirds of the forty-hour week. Other kinds of work include gardening, answering telephones and receiving guests. Housekeeping positions run from mid-May to July 31, from mid-May to September 5, from June 22 to October 18 and from August 1 to October 18. These dates are not flexible, nor do we hire anyone to work for more than one of these periods. We pay at the high end of the U.S. and Nantucket scale for housekeeping; in return we expect a high level of industriousness and self-direction. The basic wage rate for 2006 is $340 a week. A bonus is added at the end of each housekeeper's stint, assuming satisfactory fulfillment of work commitments. The standard weekly bonus for 2006 will be $160 a week. Tips vary consid­er­ably, but tend to average $30 or more a week. Altogether these components add up to $530 or more a week, or $13 an hour.
