| Working at the Wade Cottages | ||||
| The Wade Cottages are located in a spectacularly beautiful setting on a bluff overlooking the Atlantic, on Nantucket Island, in the village of Siasconset, a very old and quiet summer resort. Living accommodations are provided at the cottages. We have two kinds of jobs: housekeeping and maintenance work. Here is information covering both kinds: We operate only between early May and late October. Jobs run for set periods. Timing is not flexible. Ours is a small operation, with a maximum of six workers at any one time. The small size of our staff dictates certain aspects of the work: We count on all workers we hire to arrive when they say they will and to work for the full length of their commitment. We cannot start work earlier or later than indicated or extend it beyond the completion time. A bonus is part of the pay structure and is not paid if the individual does not work for the full committed time. A deposit, $150, is required to hold rooming and, in effect, any job opening. We have housing for our workers, and all workers live at the cottages. A modest rate (by Nantucket standards) is charged for room and kitchen use -- $80 per week in May, June, September and October and $110 per week in July and August. We do not provide student housing for anyone who is not working for us. Our workers are sought by guests and village residents for housekeeping and baby-sitting, and they are free to do such work if it does not interfer with their responsibilities at the Cottages. Go to either housekeeping or maintenance for information and application forms specific to each job. For more about the Wade Cottages and our location, see www.wadecottages.com. |
